The Koran: It may be the most controversial book in the world. Some see it as a paean to peace, others call it a violent mandate for worldwide Islamic supremacy. How can one book lead to such dramatically different conclusions? New York Times bestselling author Robert Spencer reveals the truth in The Complete Infidel's Guide to the Koran: not many Westerners know what's in the Koran because few have actually read it-even among the legions of politicians, diplomats, analysts, and editorial writers who vehemently insist that the Koran preaches tolerance. Now Spencer unveils the mysteries lying behind this powerful book, guiding listeners through the controversies surrounding the Koran's origins and its most contentious passages. Stripping out the obsolete debates, Spencer focuses on the Koran's decrees toward Jews, Christians, and other infidels, explaining how they were viewed in Muhammad's time, what they've supposedly done wrong, and, most important, what the Koran has in store for them.
Highly recommend this book by Robert Spencer. You can get a Koran from a used bookstore (the Dawood translation) and check citations, using this great guide. The important 'you got'ta KNOW this' information is well presented. This GUIDE boils down the duplication, the extraneous stories that the Koran mixes and hashes repeatedly, there are the true hate speech chapters (suri) about the killing of people who disagree with Mohammed as well as Jews, Christians, homosexuals and other non-believers. I still recommend you read the Koran, but the use of this guide and the explanations of Mr. Spencer are exceptionally helpful. You can quickly reference the most used suris.
This is both an interesting read for those who are looking for an extremely knowledgeable author (Robert Spencer) who can in laymen terms explain the tenets of Islam and for those already exposed to Islam perhaps thinking of converting to help them cut through the sanitized cuddly image and look under the hood. The book is written in plain English making it accessible to both the general reader and the scholar providing a fact based analysis of this belief system. I recommend anyone wanting a firm grasp of the fundamentals of the Koran to get this book. Indeed I would go further; in this day and age where information is the new ideological battle space this book is required reading. If you do not understand Islam you will be one of it's victims and the Koran is at it's heart. Many I have come in contact with accepted Islam as being just another Eastern religion like Hinduism or Buddhism. I have discussed this book with them and asked what their thoughts were on it. Universally they have come to the conclusion that Islam is not like other religions; they have had their blinkers removed and now see Islam for what it truly is a warriors religion complete with injunctions contained in the Koran to eliminate all non believers and instructions on how to divide War Booty and captured Sex Slaves. The Complete Infidels Guide to the Koran is a must read for today's world.
