This textbook is meant for foreigners studying Bulgarian. It aims to enable the students to read and write, to understand comparatively easy texts and to carry on a conversation in Bulgarian.
The textbook includes texts, grammar, lexical and grammar exercises, vocabulary and additional reading from Bulgarian literature.
The textbook is in two parts. The first part consists of 51 lessons illustrating phonetic rules in connection with the pronunciation, correct speech and spelling of Bulgarian. It deals with the main points of morphology and syntax.
The second part consists of 30 lessons, which deal in greater detail with the grammatical categories touched on in the first section.
The grammar exercises are intended to consolidate the student's knowledge and link the theory with the living Bulgarian language.
The texts are in conformity with certain grammatical categories and include the most essential spoken, political and economic Bulgarian vocabulary.
In order to aid the student's active mastery of the new vocabulary there are notes on the texts, groups of antonyms and synonyms, additional vocabulary and special exercises on the texts.
