Broto Carles (ed.) Rehabilitated Buildings
Spanish and English Ed. — Barcelona: Links International, 1998. — 240 p. — (Architectural Design). — ISBN-13 978-8492160693.
Rehabitating architecture involves delving into the past in order to rewrite history and give it new life. To restore, to preserve, to repair, to reconstruct, to intervene... this ambiguous family of terms refers to the same controversial practice that seeks to refurbish old spaces in order to give them a new use whilst safeguarding their historical character and holding back excessive expressions of genius and personality by their designer. It's a difficult balance involving many conflicts over historical research and technical solution, in which the architect often comes out of the loser.
The projects that are presented in the book cover a wide range of situations that range from the restoration of an old convent to house a modern hotel to the adaptation of a Gothic church for such an unlikely use as a sports center.
